If you missed the premiere on San Diego’s Channel 4 this past Saturday, you can now watch the television program we produced via Vimeo!
We hope you’ll find this entertaining and informative look at the past and potential future of the Class 1s to be an education in the history of streetcars in San Diego as well as a clear demonstration of what returning these historic treasures to the rails would mean for our city. Let’s preserve our history, boost our local economy, and improve our public transportation in one fell swoop… San Diego deserves it!
Thanks for your support thus far. We’re look forward to working with all of you in order to make this dream a reality.
Chris Chaffee, the owner of the Class 1 streetcars, spoke to the San Diego City Council yesterday and got a shout out from Todd Gloria! Thank you Councilman Gloria for your tireless work to bring back streetcars in San Diego, not to mention all of your other valuable efforts. Check out the footage up above.
After a few months of writing, production, interviews, and editing, we are very proud to announce that our short documentary-style video is set to premiere on local Channel 4 this Saturday, September 24th, at 11am!
In this half hour program we discuss the history of streetcars in San Diego and the many benefits a historic streetcar line could bring to our city. Featuring interviews with Councilman Todd Gloria, former MTS (MTDB) Chairman and State Senator Jim Mills, former Union Tribune critic-at-large Welton Jones, and more, it’s an entertaining and exciting look at what the Class 1s can do for San Diego, our local economy, and most importantly our people.
We hope you enjoy it. And be sure to keep your eyes on this blog and our Facebook and Twitter feeds for exclusive bonus footage!
It may be nearly 100 degrees out there today in San Diego, but we swear fall is on its way. And as we close out the “Summer of the Streetcar”, we’ve got a few more events lined up so you can come and get an up close and personal look at Class 1 streetcar #138 and chat with us about our project.
Sunday Sept 18th, University Heights Arts Open — Join us on 4100 Normal Street at the Historic Teacher’s Building in University Heights for a day full of art, food, community, and — of course — historic streetcars. We’ll be there from 12pm until 5pm, so be sure to stop by and say hello!
Saturday Sept 24th, Mission Hills Heritage Fall Walking Tour — The theme for this year’s Mission Hills Walking Tour is “A Walk Along the Streetcar Line”. This guided stroll will explore this historic San Diego neighborhood via the old route that the Class 1 streetcars themselves traveled down for over 20 years. Come get an idea of what it was like to ride the Class 1s and imagine what it would be like to ride them through this neighborhood again! We’ll be at the corner of West Lewis and Palmetto from 1pm until 4pm.
We’ll have some more event announcements for October coming real soon, as well some other exciting news… so keep your eyes on this page.
